Sexual Assault Allegations Unresolved, Geordie Greep's US Tour Cancelled Entirely
The flyer controversy outside the Vancouver venue continues to escalate. Though Geordie Greep took the stage alone that night to address the accusations, it wasn't enough to stop the tour cancellations from piling up—his remaining US dates have all been scrapped, while his European tour status remains up in the air.
The flyer read "rapist," planted right outside the venue on Granville Street in Vancouver. On the night of Thursday, October 8, someone claiming to be a friend of the alleged victim handed out these accusatory flyers to fans lined up before Geordie Greep's show, though no further details or evidence were provided.
Greep, formerly of black midi, has been developing his solo career since the band announced its "indefinite hiatus" over two years ago. He's now on his third solo tour cycle, this one in support of his 2024 solo album "The New Sound."
That night, he took the stage alone without his band and spent a lengthy stretch of time addressing the allegations. "Basically what happened last night is I was out drinking with some people from the band, going around, and then at a pretty late house party, I misread what someone there wanted, and I made a move that didn't go anywhere," he said. He added that he apologized immediately afterward and believes the whole thing was a complete misunderstanding. "I feel very upset and very sorry, and very unsettled about the whole thing. I would never rape a woman. I'm not a rapist. That's not what happened."
Greep announced that night that proceeds from the show would go to an anti-sexual violence charity in British Columbia, then finished the set as a solo performance. According to accounts on social media, some audience members left after his statement, while others stayed to hear the rest of the show.
Days after the controversy broke, all of Greep's remaining US tour dates have been cancelled, including two Colorado shows plus stops in Salt Lake City, Omaha, and Boise. The Des Moines date at Wooly's in Iowa, which had earlier been reported as possibly going ahead as planned, has now also been confirmed cancelled. The status of his European tour dates remains unclear for now.
