ASICS SONICBLAST 2 Sheds 14 Grams, Debuts in 8-Shoe "Rise & Shine" Collection Ahead of Sydney Marathon

ASICS has unveiled the SONICBLAST 2, cutting 14 grams through a forked ASTROPLATE design and updated FF BLAST MAX midsole foam. The shoe will debut on August 24 as part of the eight-shoe "Rise & Shine" collection, timed just ahead of the Sydney Marathon.

Shaving weight off a racing shoe usually means starting with the frame. This time, ASICS reworked the SONICBLAST's core ASTROPLATE technology into a forked shape, allowing the FF TURBO SQUARED foam to extend deeper into the midsole for extra cushioning and rebound. It's a plate design unique to the SONICBLAST line—and the starting point for the SONICBLAST 2's upgrade.

Kobe-headquartered ASICS built this update as part of its BLAST family, which spans the all-around MEGABLAST, distance-focused SUPERBLAST, everyday-training NOVABLAST, and speed-oriented SONICBLAST. The SONICBLAST 2 keeps the springy feel of its predecessor while adding FF BLAST MAX foam for a more explosive toe-off, alongside a redesigned engineered mesh upper. Combined, these changes bring the shoe in 14 grams lighter than the previous version.

Paul Lang, ASICS Global Senior Product Manager, said: "What makes SONICBLAST unique within the BLAST family is how it combines cushioning with mechanical propulsion to deliver a highly energetic running experience. This time around, our focus was on refining that feel rather than reinventing it entirely. By rethinking the geometry of the ASTROPLATE and how it interacts with the surrounding cushioning system, we've created a ride that's lighter, smoother, and more efficient—while still keeping that signature bounce runners know."

The SONICBLAST 2 will make its debut as part of the "Rise & Shine" collection, inspired by early-morning runs. The same release also includes special colorways of the MEGABLAST, SUPERBLAST 3, NOVABLAST 6, GEL-NIMBUS 28, GEL-CUMULUS 28, GEL-KAYANO 33, and GT-2000 15—eight styles in total. The full lineup is set to launch on August 24, timed just ahead of the Sydney Marathon.

Pricing and Taiwan release details have not yet been announced.
