A company trying to break into the Fed's payment system has taken its fight all the way to the Supreme Court — and this time, an entire industry association is speaking up in its corner.
Blockchain Association has come out in support of Custodia's appeal to the U.S. Supreme Court, in a case centered on whether Custodia can obtain a Fed master account — the account access that lets a financial institution plug directly into the Fed's payment system without routing through another bank as an intermediary. That threshold determines whether an institution gets treated as part of the financial system or is forever forced to take the long way around.
Blockchain Association didn't mince words in its statement, framing the case around whether "legitimate digital asset businesses can compete on a level playing field." In other words, the question the association wants the Supreme Court to answer isn't about Custodia alone — it's whether the Fed can use administrative discretion to shut an entire industry out.
That's as far as the publicly available information goes for now. Details on the appeal's progress, whether the Supreme Court will take up the case, and the specifics of Custodia's earlier proceedings in lower courts remain unclear, pending further disclosures.
