DogeOS has publicly launched a zero-knowledge rollup testnet with the goal of bringing EVM smart contracts to the Dogecoin ecosystem. In other words, developers may soon be able to deploy Ethereum-compatible smart contracts on Dogecoin, rather than treating DOGE as nothing more than a plain payment token.
According to The Block, the testnet currently uses DOGE to pay gas fees, effectively baking Dogecoin directly into the transaction cost logic instead of issuing a separate token to handle that role.
For now, this is still just the public testnet stage — no mainnet launch date, tokenomics, or concrete use cases have been announced yet.
