A single salted egg yolk pastry has been kept for ten years — that's the most direct message Hu Jen Tang is sending this Mid-Autumn Festival. Called "Hu Wan Yu Huang Ji," this pastry has been part of the lineup since Hu Jen Tang was founded in Huwei, Yunlin in 2016. Its filling starts with Yunlin golden sweet potato, layered with Taichung Dajia taro and Pingtung salted egg yolk, and it was selected for the "Top 10 Yunlin Souvenirs" list three years in a row. This year marks the brand's 10th anniversary, and rather than launching a brand-new design, it chose to bring back this early product as a gift box for the Mid-Autumn lineup — a statement in itself: even after ten years, what they want to be remembered for is still that original flavor.
The "Hu Wan Classic Revival Gift Box" features a black base with bright orange-gold lines outlining a full moon. Inside are six individually wrapped egg yolk pastries. The box measures 27cm x 39cm x 6cm and is priced at NT$638.

The Other Two Gift Boxes Each Take a Different Festive Approach
Also launching alongside is the "Tiger Welcome Moon" gift box, priced at NT$750, measuring 23×39×6cm. The design concept plays on the layered light and shadow of the jade rabbit and full moon, featuring a white exterior tied with a red satin ribbon. Inside are 3 pieces of White Jade Golden Treasure, 2 pieces of Purple Sweet Potato Custard Cake, and 2 pieces of Tiger Baked Treasure. The White Jade Golden Treasure is a three-layer flaky pastry dessert, with a smooth white crust wrapping purple sweet potato filling blended with salted egg yolk powder and white bean paste; the Tiger Baked Treasure combines sweet potato filling with French fleur de sel for a sweet-and-savory flavor profile.

The "Tiger Famous Moon" gift box is priced at NT$990, measuring 27×34.5×7cm, featuring a black background with gold accents and the brand's signature double-tiger emblem. Its contents are more varied: 4 pieces of White Jade Golden Treasure, 2 pieces of Purple Sweet Potato Custard Cake, 2 pieces of Purple Sweet Potato Bake, and 2 pieces of Han Ji Fluffy Mochi Treasure, the latter being a non-vegetarian item made with sweet potato filling wrapped around pork floss and mochi. All three gift boxes use MOF-certified vegetable-based ink for their packaging, paired with SGS-certified eco-friendly ink and water-based coating, with the brand stating this achieves zero heavy metal and zero plasticizer residue.

Hu Zhen Tang was founded in 2016 in Huwei, Yunlin, and describes itself as Taiwan's only dedicated sweet potato pastry specialty shop. It was selected for the Yunlin County Government's "Yunlin 100 Dishes" list in 2024.
