Nike Officially Unveils Pegasus Plus 2: Exposed Air Zoom Unit Boosts Energy Return by 18%

When the original Pegasus Plus launched, it landed right alongside the more premium-specced Pegasus Premium, and most of the spotlight went straight to the latter. Two years later, Nike has officially revealed the Pegasus Plus 2, and this time the midsole isn't playing it low-key — a curved, exposed Air Zoom unit sits right in the forefoot, becoming the shoe's most eye-catching detail.

Nike overhauled its running shoe lineup in 2024, splitting it into three main families: Vomero for maximum cushioning, Pegasus for responsive speed, and Structure for enhanced support. Each family is further broken into three tiers — Icon (entry-level), Plus (upgraded), and Premium (top-tier) — with the Pegasus Plus 2 serving as the mid-tier option in the Pegasus line.

According to Nike, pairing the exposed Air Zoom unit with a ZoomX foam midsole delivers 18% more energy return compared to the original Pegasus Plus. The shoe also debuts a new last, which first appeared on the Pegasus 42 — a rare structural change for a franchise that's been around for decades.

Deepa Ramprasad, Senior Director of Footwear for Nike Running, said: "Our goal is simple — speed shouldn't come at the cost of anything else. We spent years scrutinizing every single component in the system, keeping only what runners truly need, so they feel fast, comfortable, and confident pushing the pace. This is a revolution for the Pegasus franchise, bringing race-day feel into an everyday training shoe." Per Nike, the Pegasus Plus 2 is designed to deliver supershoe-like feel without the bulk that comes from carbon plates and stacked midsoles.

Ahead of the official reveal, official images of two women's colorways had already surfaced online, clearly showing off the exposed Air Zoom cushioning alongside an engineered mesh upper. One of them, style code IM2543-001, has yet to receive a confirmed release date.

The officially unveiled colorway is Flash Crimson, blending Flash Crimson, black, Light Smoke Grey, and Metallic Silver across the upper. Carrying style code IM2541-600, it's set to release through Nike's official channels on August 27, 2026.
