Shanghai Portman Ritz-Carlton's Terrace 8 Returns with Open-Air Rooftop, Adds Mini Golf
Terrace 8, the rooftop restaurant at the Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai in Jing'an, is back this season with a new mini golf course on the lawn, plus barbecue, Mediterranean-style snacks, and two-hour free-flow drinks starting from ¥129.
The lawn on the 8th floor used to just have dining tables and sun umbrellas — this year it's gained a mini golf course. Terrace 8, the rooftop restaurant at The Portman Ritz-Carlton, Shanghai, has reopened for the season at No. 1376 Nanjing West Road, open Wednesday through Sunday from 5:30pm to 10:30pm.
Perched on the 8th floor of the hotel, Terrace 8 offers views over the heart of Jing'an. The most noticeable addition this year is the mini putt-putt course on the lawn, complete with scorecards and official rules — though the real fun usually comes from adults making up their own rules, whether that means turning it into a drinking game or not. Families with kids get half an hour of built-in entertainment, plus plenty of lawn space to run around on. Even without the golf, this kind of open-air rooftop is a rare find in the city center.
The menu focuses on grilled-to-order barbecue, paired with Mediterranean-style mezze and Southeast Asian dishes. Beyond à la carte options, the best value is the sharing set for two at RMB 299, which includes two mezze, two grilled mains, and two desserts.
The mezze selection includes hummus (¥58) and smoky baba ganoush (¥58), both served with house-made pita. For drinking snacks, there's truffle fries (¥48) and calamari rings with tartar sauce (¥78). For something cold, the charcuterie platter (¥158) comes with Parma ham, finocchiona salami, and mortadella, served with grilled baguette.
Grilled options include chicken satay with peanut sauce (¥68), a trio of beef sliders (¥98) with relish and mayo, and grilled pork patties (¥78). Larger mains include grilled pork neck with papaya salad (¥78), grilled sea bass with king oyster mushrooms (¥98), and grilled beef flank with chimichurri and smoked potatoes (¥188). According to local food media outlet NOMFLUENCE, the standouts after tasting were the chicken satay — with slightly charred chicken thigh and a rich, nutty sauce — along with the beef sliders and grilled pork patties.
There are several drink package options too. The basic package offers two hours of free-flow Asahi and Stella draft beer for RMB 129; an upgraded version with free-flow bottled beer and red or white wine runs RMB 189; and the champagne upgrade with Chandon sparkling wine is RMB 388, which comes with a complimentary order of truffle fries.
Every Friday and Saturday night, DJ Anna spins laid-back tunes on-site. Terrace 8 also accepts private buyout bookings, ideal for corporate events or birthday parties with 20 or more guests. Food and drink packages can be customized to fit the occasion, including appetizers, barbecue, and free-flow drink combos, with add-ons available for venue decoration and mini golf access.
