Red steps aside, grey steps in. The Roy first made its debut on the TEDxPortland stage, its bright red colorway paired with the auditorium spotlight practically built to be remembered. This new "Elephant" colorway goes the opposite direction, wrapping the entire shoe in a single grey tone—no contrast, no pops of color—leaving the segmented flex grooves circling the upper as the sole visual focus.
The shoe comes from veteran footwear designer Steven Smith and the Crocs Creative Innovation Team, sticking to their signature construction: the entire shoe is molded in a single injection, with the upper and outsole formed as one piece—no separate cutting, no stitching—poured entirely in Mellow foam. This approach delivers cushioned rebound and lightweight comfort, but it comes at the cost of the layered detailing that traditional stitched and paneled shoes rely on. The design team's solution was to add segmented flex grooves across the upper and outsole, allowing the shoe to bend naturally with ankle movement while also aiding breathability and temperature regulation.
