Materials first, design second — the focus here isn't the colorway, it's the texture that looks like it "grew" on its own. Custom sneaker artist ANT KAI's latest project is a customized ASICS GEL-KAYANO 14, and the name says it all: "MOSS." The entire shoe looks less like a freshly-made running shoe and more like a rock that's been sitting in a damp corner for years.

The base layer is grey mesh, topped with a burlap-textured fabric that serves as the canvas for hand-embroidered moss patterns. ASICS' signature Tiger Stripes side panels weren't spared either — they've been reinterpreted with a mossy texture that runs from the side of the shoe all the way to the toe, tying the whole plant-life motif together instead of just slapping some detail on the side and calling it done.

Moss alone would feel too soft, so ANT KAI added a metallic silver overlay, complete with intentional scratches and wear marks that give the upper a weathered feel — creating a hard-versus-soft contrast against the organic moss texture. The finishing touches come in the form of thick rope laces and hand-painted, deliberately asymmetrical heel panels, with colors that tie back into the overall palette rather than distressing just for the sake of it.
