THE ARCHIPELAGO Links Wai'ao and Yilan Through Sea, Land and Air Experiences

From summer 2026, THE ARCHIPELAGO will launch a 'Sea, Land, Air' experience program combining Turtle Island whale watching, Wai'ao paragliding and coconut-grove horseback riding, with Yilan-inspired cuisine curated by chef André Chiang, extending options beyond the hotel itself.

THE ARCHIPELAGO Links Wai'ao and Yilan Through Sea, Land and Air Experiences

Located in Toucheng, Yilan, THE ARCHIPELAGO will launch a comprehensive 'Sea, Land, Air' experience program starting summer 2026, extending the scope of accommodation to Wai'ao Beach and the waters around Turtle Island, linking existing local tourism resources and outdoor activity operators so that guests' itineraries are not limited to the hotel's own facilities.

How Do the Sea and Air Experiences Connect Turtle Island and Wai'ao?

The announced sea itinerary includes whale watching with a landing on Turtle Island to observe its volcanic landscape, as well as chartered boat trips to the area commonly known as 'Milk Sea,' named for the distinctive milky-white tone of its waters, which has become one of the more notable spots off the coast of Yilan in recent years.

The aerial experience is offered in partnership with the Wai'ao paragliding base, allowing guests to view the landscape where the Lanyang Plain meets the Pacific Ocean from above. The hotel has incorporated this resource into its program, effectively integrating previously scattered local activities into the accommodation itinerary.

What Local Yilan Attractions Does the Land Itinerary Include?

The land portion includes a coconut-grove horseback riding experience, with routes extending along Wai'ao Beach, allowing guests to take in coastal scenery on horseback. The itinerary also connects to Toucheng Old Street, the Yilan National Center for Traditional Arts, and the Kavalan Whisky Distillery, covering a historic district, a traditional culture park, and a local distillery—three distinct types of attractions—so the land-based experience is not confined to the area around the hotel.

Wai'ao Beach itself also offers surfing lessons and beachside rest areas, so guests who do not join the horseback riding or paragliding itineraries may instead look into surfing lessons or simply relax by the sea.

The Hotel's Own Facilities and Dining Plans

Beyond linking external itineraries, THE ARCHIPELAGO itself features sea-view rooms, a pool, a lazy river, and hot springs among its public facilities, offering guests places to rest between sea, land, and air activities.

For dining, the hotel's archi restaurant is curated by chef André Chiang, with dishes drawing inspiration from Yilan's local terroir, aiming to echo on the culinary level the overall experience framework the hotel has built around Yilan's natural and cultural resources.

Overall, this sea-land-air program is a seasonal offering announced by THE ARCHIPELAGO starting summer 2026, with the specific content subject to adjustment depending on the season, weather, and the actual conditions of partner operators. Guests planning their itineraries should still pay attention to whether weather conditions are suitable for boat trips or paragliding activities at the time.
