Whenever Qixi (Chinese Valentine's Day) rolls around, brands tend to boil couple style down to "matching pairs" or "same colorway." ASICS SPORTSTYLE is taking a slightly different approach this time — dropping two silhouettes built on almost opposite design logic, and letting consumers decide for themselves.

The GEL-STRATUS MC is a brand-new silhouette debuting this year, merging the upper construction of the GEL-STRATUS 4 with the outsole of the GEL-JOG MC. The upper mixes mesh, leather, and a silver tiger-stripe texture, with heat-pressed seams keeping the transitions clean. The overall palette stays soft and understated rather than loud. Down below, the classic cushioning GEL and lightweight EVA midsole keep things comfortable — this is very much a "first retro sneaker" pick, made for couples who are still figuring out their shared style and want to start safe.

The GEL-NIMBUS 10.1 runs on an entirely different logic. Since debuting in 2024, this silhouette has been known for its asymmetrical upper, which has also made it a go-to reference point for streetwear collab designs. This time, the two new colorways introduce a first: side-by-side color-blocking, where the left and right sides of the same shoe are done in different colors. The black, white, and gray contrast is pushed hard, with only a subtle mesh texture on the heel adding detail — everything else stays deliberately minimal, letting the metallic sheen of the upper take center stage, while the exposed GEL outsole catches a bit of shine under light. Where the GEL-STRATUS MC is about "blending," the GEL-NIMBUS 10.1 is all about "contrast."

Put side by side, the two pairs represent two kinds of couple sync: one where both partners wear the same shoe and share the same vibe, and another where each sticks to their own style, only meeting in some small detail. ASICS isn't pushing either as the "right" answer — and that's probably what makes this campaign land well.

The GEL-STRATUS MC retails for NT$3,280, and the GEL-NIMBUS 10.1 retails for NT$5,280. Both are now available on the ASICS official website and select directly-operated stores across Taiwan.
