A century-old bank and a crypto exchange are teaming up—this time not for a proof-of-concept demo, but for payment pipelines that businesses actually use every day. Citi has announced it's expanding its existing partnership with Coinbase, with both parties jointly building infrastructure that lets enterprises handle traditional fiat payments and stablecoin transactions side by side.

According to public information, the core of this expanded partnership is opening up a connection layer between fiat and stablecoins for enterprise clients. In other words, businesses won't need to switch between two separate systems—they'll be able to send and receive payments through a single infrastructure, regardless of whether the counterparty requires traditional currency or stablecoins.

The publicly available materials don't specify a launch timeline for the partnership, which stablecoins will be involved, or how the technical responsibilities will be divided between Citi and Coinbase.
