An on-set accident just cost one actor the role of a "god of war." Amazon MGM Studios and Sony Pictures Television have officially announced that Dave Bautista will take over as Kratos in the live-action "God of War" series, replacing original lead Ryan Hurst.
Hurst was confirmed as Kratos back in January 2026, but tore his bicep while filming in Vancouver and now needs surgery—without a recast, resuming production could have been delayed all the way to 2027. With the switch, the production team plans to restart filming in Vancouver within the next few weeks—though the cost is that all of Hurst's completed Kratos footage will have to be reshot. Bautista, who already has action chops from "Guardians of the Galaxy," now takes on the job of rebuilding the role from scratch.
