Enlarging a lampshade might sound like a minor tweak, but for a novelty lamp, it usually throws off the entire proportion of the design. This time, ILKW (ILKWANG Lighting) has scaled up the shade on its SNOWMAN series to 12cm, with the new model appropriately named the SNOWMAN12 Portable Lamp. What looks like a simple "size-up" actually forced the design team to rethink the lamp's entire center of gravity.

Creative director Sunman Kwon puts it plainly: once the shade got wider, the whole body got heavier, so the team built a "balloon-like" base to keep everything balanced. This is also the clearest departure from the previous generation — the two-tone body pairs contrasting materials and colors, and the base is now round and substantial, giving the design a more architectural presence than the original's slim, playful snowman silhouette, while still holding onto the series' signature goofy outline.

Beyond the design, the real story here is battery life. Senior Manager Minhyuk Cho, who led development, says the SNOWMAN12's battery performance and brightness output mark a significant upgrade over ILKW's existing portable lineup — a single charge now lasts up to 260 hours. In his words, it lets you "use it longer, brighter, and more freely," a practical detail that arguably matters more than the shape for a lamp designed to be carried around and used on the go.

The SNOWMAN12 is priced at 100,000 KRW, roughly $71 USD, and is now available through ILKW's official online store as well as select overseas retailers. Whether it'll make its way to Taiwan, and when, hasn't been mentioned.
