INVINCIBLE and MADNESS Team Up with ASICS for Their First-Ever Three-Way Collab: The GEL-KAYANO 12.1
Following 2025's GEL-NIMBUS 10.1, INVINCIBLE reunites with ASICS — this time bringing MADNESS into the mix for a true three-way collaboration. Inspired by the layered texture of dolomite rock, the GEL-KAYANO 12.1 drops early in Asia on August 23.
Ten different materials layered onto a single upper might sound like overkill, but INVINCIBLE, MADNESS, and ASICS have reined in that complexity through "geological layering" — semi-transparent mesh, tactile coatings, and paneled construction interlock to mimic the cross-section of dolomite rock cut open by time. This marks the first true three-way collaboration between all parties, rather than a mere name-drop team-up.
In 2025, INVINCIBLE and ASICS teamed up to reinterpret the GEL-NIMBUS 10.1, and the positive response prompted the two to join forces again. This time, they've brought in Tokyo-based label MADNESS, known for its expertise in vintage sportswear, rounding out a trio each bringing something different to the table: INVINCIBLE's cultural pull, ASICS' decades of technical heritage, and MADNESS' refined touch with vintage sportswear aesthetics. Landing on the GEL-KAYANO 12.1 silhouette, the project is an attempt to compress all three backgrounds into a single shoe.
The upper material is the true focal point this time around. According to the brands, the design draws inspiration from the layered texture of dolomite rock formations, resulting in an upper that blends ten different materials — including semi-transparent mesh, tactile coatings, and multi-layer construction — to create a rugged yet breathable surface. ASICS' signature details remain intact, with zigzag stitching, woven labels, and contrast accents all present, but pressed into a calmer, more natural color palette. The overall vibe leans toward muted tones with a hint of weathering, rather than a loud color-blocked look.
The release will roll out in two phases. The GEL-KAYANO 12.1 will first drop exclusively at INVINCIBLE stores across Asia on August 23, followed by a global release at select ASICS retailers on August 29. In other words, buyers looking to get their hands on the pair early will need to hit up INVINCIBLE's Asia locations rather than wait for the worldwide rollout.
