A little boat carrying a red McDonald's fry box drifts across the water, then a Hello Kitty wearing a Godzilla head slowly emerges from the waves before sinking back into the depths — that's the scene from McDonald's teaser clip, paired with a single line of text: "cute meets kaiju 08.18." The contrast is the whole point of this collab: cutesy characters strapped into the head of the King of the Monsters, weird enough to be irresistible.

This marks the latest reveal from the three-way McDonald's x Hello Kitty x Godzilla toy collection, following the buzzy Travis Scott x CACTUS PLANT FLEA MARKET "Big Fries Backpack" collab. Alongside the Godzilla-helmeted Hello Kitty, Kuromi appears to be channeling Mechagodzilla, while Badtz-Maru looks to be paying tribute to Space Godzilla. The promo poster shows the Godzilla version of Hello Kitty, Mechagodzilla, and another kaiju lined up against a city skyline — suggesting this lineup goes well beyond just one or two figures.

McDonald's Marketing Director Guillaume Huin didn't hold back with his praise, calling it "one of the best toy lines I've ever seen" and dubbing the set "Hall of Fame–level collectibles." Bold words, but this kind of mashup between Sanrio characters and Godzilla headgear is genuinely rare territory.

The three-way collab toy collection drops in limited quantities at U.S. McDonald's locations starting August 18. Whether it'll make its way to Asian markets remains unconfirmed for now.
