The lines originally sung by Ringo Starr are now sung by Paul McCartney, and the parts that belonged to McCartney have been handed over to Ringo. This remixed version of "Home To Us," called the "Flip Mix," completely swaps the duet roles the two shared on the original track — the most straightforward and fan-pleasing move in this special edition: the same song, but hear the two Beatles through a different set of ears.
"Home To Us" originally appeared on McCartney's album "The Boys of Dungeon Lane," released this past May — his first solo studio album since 2020's "McCartney III," and the first time he and Ringo Starr have collaborated on a solo duet. The 14-track album centers on his childhood in Liverpool, his parents' resilience, and his teenage years with George Harrison and John Lennon before fame. After its release, the album topped global album charts and was nominated for the 2026 Mercury Prize's list of 12 Albums of the Year — McCartney's first-ever nomination for the award.
This newly announced special edition, besides the swapped version of "Home To Us," also includes three previously unreleased new songs written around the same time as the original album: "City Fox," "One Night Stand," and "Chelsea Boots." Combined with the original 14 tracks, the special edition now totals 18 songs. The digital version is already available, while the physical release is set for December 9. One of the vinyl editions is a limited 2LP orange-and-blue marble pressing with a zoetrope etching design, and all new cover art has been replaced with a silkscreen piece by illustrator Kate Gibb, collaged from over 100 personal photos of McCartney.
In an Instagram post about how the album came together, McCartney said it all started when his manager asked him, "Do you want to meet Andrew Watt?" "I went, had a cup of tea, and we just sat and talked. Then we started playing, I hit some crazy chord, and we just kept going from there — it turned into a whole production journey, making these songs we were really happy with." He described the process as feeling "like two Dungeon Lane boys playing in a sandbox," adding, "Our Dungeon Lane journey continues with this special edition."
To promote the new edition, McCartney also appeared on a Brooklyn special of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," joking that he won't be inviting Larry David to his shows anymore — because the writer, at a small performance in Los Angeles, refused to sing along with everyone else.
