That DJ set you caught at 3am in the club often leaves nothing behind the next morning but a few disjointed video clips in your camera roll—you can't even remember the DJ's name. A newly launched app wants to fix exactly that problem.
The free app, called Seen Live, has been described as "Letterboxd for clubbing"—referring to the platform where film fans rate movies they've watched with stars, write short reviews, and build watchlists. The difference is that Seen Live applies the same logic to nightclubs and live music venues: users can search for shows they've attended or upcoming ones, rate DJ sets, festivals, and concerts on a five-star scale, upload photos and videos, and organize everything they've seen live into a personal timeline.
The app also has built-in social features, letting users follow friends' accounts, browse trending shows, and discover new DJs, artists, and venues through other users' reviews.
Seen Live was developed by Jordan Taylor, founder of the club culture platform Tough Luck. He told Mixmag: "I found that after a while, I couldn't remember half the artists and DJs I'd seen, and the photos and videos from those nights were all buried in my camera roll with zero context." He added that he built the app to create a place where people could "look back on every show they've been to, a proper complete record," while also letting users "discover new artists through each other's reviews, finding their next favorite DJ from people who were actually there."
Seen Live is currently only available for iPhone and iPad on the Apple App Store, with no Android version yet.
For comparison, Letterboxd also launched an in-app movie rental service last year, with Charli XCX and Paul McCartney among its notable users; Spotify, meanwhile, already lets users follow their favorite live music venues, with its Live Events page updating show info daily for over 20,000 venues worldwide.
