How Sony REON POCKET PRO Plus cools and warms: a neck-worn device’s mechanism and limits
REON POCKET PRO Plus uses contact-based thermoelectric modules near the back of the neck. Explore its sensors, adjustable neckband and airflow accessories without confusing it with room cooling.
Sony REON POCKET PRO Plus puts cooling and warming into a wearable device positioned behind the neck. The 2026 flagship creates a cool or warm sensation through contact with the body, using sensors and a phone app to adjust its operation. It is best understood as personal contact-based heating and cooling: it does not lower the temperature of an entire office, and surface-test figures should not be interpreted as changes in core body temperature. Clothing’s difficulty in serving different environments during seasonal transitions is the situation this design addresses.
Where does the cool or warm sensation come from?
Thermoelectric modules are the key. Electrical current controls heat transfer: during cooling, heat is absorbed from the contact area and expelled through an internal dissipation system; warming provides the opposite contact sensation. PRO Plus uses two thermoelectric modules, alternating their operating intensity, together with a vapour chamber, fan and cooling fins. Those structures also explain why a piece of cold metal alone could not sustain the effect.
An official structural diagram illustrates the two thermoelectric modules and heat flow.
Under specified app versions, strong-cooling settings and test conditions, Sony Japan compares PRO Plus with the preceding PRO and lists approximately 20% greater maximum cooling output and a cooling-surface minimum temperature around 2°C lower. Both figures have conditions. They cannot be translated into the same body-temperature reduction for every wearer, nor do they establish that every outfit and outdoor environment will reproduce laboratory results.
What does automatic operation require?
SMART COOL uses the device’s sensor information and preset preferences to adjust cooling levels. For automatic switching between cooling and warming, the official requirements include the REON POCKET TAG, allowing external environmental information to inform control. Check whether a purchase is the device, neckband or a set including the TAG, rather than assuming “smart” means every accessory is in the box.
Battery life also needs its conditions. The official maximum of 15 hours corresponds to SMART COOL’s initial settings in a 30°C room with the user remaining still. Higher intensity, different surroundings or movement can change operating time. For long commutes or extended outings, understanding the mode you will use is more helpful than taking the maximum figure alone.
Neckband and collar are part of real use
The PRO Plus neckband has an adjustable curve, and its airflow accessory allows length and angle changes to position the outlet around a collar. Because the device must contact the body while expelling heat, clothing becomes part of the operating conditions. A substantial collar, accessory placement and stability deserve attention during a fitting, rather than judging only whether the device disappears inside a shirt.

The product includes drip- and dust-resistant design, while Sony also notes that it does not completely prevent water droplets or dust from entering. The Korean source published on August 31 listed ₩319,000, a local price at that time rather than a Taiwan price or stock promise. Owners of the preceding PRO can also consult official information about software updates and a separately purchased PRO Plus neckband. Checking the existing model, bundle and local support helps distinguish a full device replacement from an adjustment to existing equipment.
