Spiritland Moves Into The Barbican, Giving London Another "No Reservations Needed" Listening Room

Spiritland has teamed up with London arts landmark the Barbican to launch a brand-new listening bar, set in the Level 2 Lakeside space overlooking the fountains, with daily vinyl selections and a full album playback every night at 5pm.

No reservation required—just walk in and sit down to hear an entire vinyl record from start to finish in the Lakeside space at London's Barbican. That's the angle Spiritland is taking with this latest venture. The new listening bar, called "Spiritland At The Barbican," marks the first collaboration between the two London culture brands, and the timing happens to coincide with the tenth anniversary of Spiritland's original Coal Drops Yard location.

The venue sits on the Barbican's second floor, with windows looking out onto the complex's fountains and lake views. The music selection spans jazz, classical, ambient, and electronic, with the brand saying these genres were chosen to echo the Barbican's own diverse arts programming. Every day at 5pm, there's a fixed "full album playback" session, where anything from Bach classics to Beck records might get played start to finish, mixed in with works from lesser-known up-and-coming artists.

The sound system was built by Living Voice, and the company's Kevin Scott says the goal of the setup is to capture the artistry and persuasive power of the live performance itself. "Conveying emotion is the most crucial element of music, and that's exactly what this equipment is designed to preserve and continue chasing after."

Spiritland's Paul Noble describes the Barbican's Lakeside space as "an incredible space that lets us dig deeper into the music we love—jazz, soul, contemporary classical, ambient, electronic and more—on a sound system of the highest caliber." Barbican's Chief Experience Officer Beau Vigushin added that this gives people "yet another exciting reason to visit the Barbican," noting, "Our partnership with Spiritland is about connecting two bold, adventurous London brands to create a space where you can relax with friends over great music, good food and drinks, escape the everyday for a while, and stumble onto a few unexpected discoveries along the way—no reservation needed, just walk right in."

Food is provided through a joint effort by Lardo, Smoking Goat, Milroys, and St. John, while Spiritland's cocktail team has crafted a series of seasonal signature drinks exclusively for the collaboration.

Spiritland At The Barbican opened on October 20th and operates Tuesday through Sunday, with the residency expected to run through July 2027. The venue holds up to 100 guests, and no advance ticketing is required to enter.
