Aston Martin Valen Ditches Rear Window, 838-HP V12 Front-Engine Setup Rewrites Brand Record

Aston Martin unveiled the limited-run, 150-unit Valen at Monterey Car Week, abandoning the traditional GT elegance formula in favor of a carbon fiber body, an 838-hp V12 engine, and cameras replacing the rear window—starting at $2 million.

Aston Martin Valen Ditches Rear Window, 838-HP V12 Front-Engine Setup Rewrites Brand Record

The exhaust system eats up most of the trunk space, and owners even get a special heat-resistant cloth to prevent paint damage from exhaust heat when loading luggage—arguably the least "supercar brand" item on Aston Martin's accessory list for the Valen.

The Valen made its official debut at Monterey Car Week as a limited-production, track-focused model built on the Vanquish platform through Aston Martin's in-house customization division, Q by Aston Martin. Only 150 units will be produced worldwide, with pricing starting at $2 million. The company states it's the most powerful front-engine production car in the brand's 113-year history.

Under the hood sits a reworked 5.2-liter twin-turbo V12 producing 838 horsepower and 738 lb-ft of torque, paired with an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission featuring shift logic borrowed directly from the Vantage GT4 race car. This powertrain propels the Valen from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.0 seconds, with an electronically limited top speed of 214 mph.

To handle this power, engineers shaved 243 pounds off the standard Vanquish platform and fitted 21-inch magnesium alloy wheels wrapped in Pirelli's specially developed staggered-width P Zero R tires, with the rears measuring a massive 325 section width. These tires incorporate Pirelli's Cyber Tyre technology, feeding real-time tread friction data back to the vehicle's dynamic control systems. Out back sits a titanium quad-exit exhaust system—two high-mounted outlets plus two variable-valve lower outlets integrated into the diffuser—producing a sound 50% louder than previous models, tuned to mimic the high-pitched wail of mid-engine supercars.

Losing the Rear Window: A Design Choice, Not a Compromise

The Valen's exterior abandons Aston Martin's signature understated elegance in favor of a massive carbon fiber front splitter and razor-thin headlights. The most dramatic change comes at the rear: a solid deck lid completely replaces the rear window, forcing drivers to rely on a digital camera system to see what's behind them. The quad-exit exhaust system further eats into the already modest trunk space, prompting Aston Martin to equip the Valen with a custom-fitted luggage set and a heat-shielding cloth to protect the paint and block exhaust heat during loading and unloading. The show car wears Satin Andromeda Red paint, which shifts between deep red and coppery blue tones depending on the light.
