Vertigo & Moon Bar, perched on the 61st floor of Bangkok, closed its doors last month. The official Instagram left behind a simple line: "This is not goodbye. We'll see you under a new sky." Twenty-four years of rooftop bar business, gone just like that—with not even a new concept announced yet. This city's longest-running icon of scenic dining has temporarily vanished, but Bangkok's love affair with eating alongside a view shows no signs of backing down. At the very same time, at least six restaurants are stepping in to fill that void, each with its own window and its own menu.

Vertigo & Moon Bar, part of Banyan Tree Bangkok, sits on the fully open-air 61st floor and was long known for offering the city's most coveted starlit views. Now temporarily closed, its address remains 21/100 South Sathon Road, Thung Maha Mek, Sathon.

Three Ways to Dine by the River

Brasserie Palmier at Four Seasons Bangkok delivers French cuisine in a room so richly designed it makes you forget the Chao Phraya River is right outside. Design studio AvroKO leaned into palm trees, Art Deco lines, and colonial-era patterns to conjure the feel of an exclusive garden club rather than a typical hotel restaurant. The menu opens with lobster bisque and tiger prawn appetizers, moves through chilled tomato soup and hand-cut beef tartare, and features an experimental onion soup mid-course that pairs ice cream with the hot broth. It closes with a seafood and vegetable soup served with grilled fish, alongside 18-hour slow-cooked Iberico pork ribs finished with lentil stew and raspberry vinegar. Located on the Ground Floor, Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, 300/1 Charoen Krung Road, open for lunch and dinner Tuesday through Sunday.

OXBO, on the third floor of Millennium Hilton Bangkok, takes on the Chao Phraya sunset head-on with open-flame cooking. Chef Oliver Afonso González, born in Venezuela and raised in Barcelona, entered professional kitchens at 16, and his farm-to-table approach uses fire and technique to draw out the full flavor of local Thai ingredients. The dry-aged wagyu ribeye, served with seven sauces and double-fried OXBO fries, headlines the menu, while lighter options include raw Tapi farm sea bass with balsamic caviar and a dish of wagyu bone marrow paired with quail egg yolk, both seared over open flame. Dessert is a tableside-flambéed tres leches cake with passion fruit sorbet, best paired with a glass of Valpolicella Ripasso Classico. Open daily from 5pm to 11pm.

Siam Yacht Club, on the riverside of Royal Orchid Sheraton, channels a captain's-log nautical vibe with deep navy tones, light wood accents, and vintage maritime decor set against clean white lines. Chef Natchayapong "Nu" Homsombutchoti, a familiar face on Thai television, blends European technique with Asian flavors. His signature green curry cream pesto pasta with half-cooked salmon and roe leads the menu, alongside Southeast Asian-style wagyu tartare with foie gras foam, while white wine mussels with crispy fries and black garlic aioli make for a lighter option. Dessert is coconut panna cotta served over dry ice. Open daily from 5pm to 1am.

Skyline Views and Unconventional Perspectives

Sirocco by lebua, atop State Tower, gained global fame from "The Hangover Part II," but what's really kept it going in recent years is the collaborative menu from Chef Brian Rodriguez and a rotating cast of international guest chefs. The five-course European set menu, complemented by amuse-bouche and pre-dessert courses, features Japanese wild flounder with Argentine shrimp in a fennel-saffron champagne sauce as its main highlight, while the vegetarian option showcases zucchini blossom, celeriac, and green peas dressed in yuzu vinaigrette and topped with shaved truffle. The full dining experience runs about two hours, after which the space transitions into late-night à la carte and small plates. Located on the 63rd floor of State Tower Bangkok, 1055 Silom Road, open daily from 5:30pm to 12:30am.

VIU, on the twelfth floor of The St. Regis Bangkok, swaps the usual river or skyline view for a rarer sight in Bangkok's high-rise jungle: the golf course and racetrack of the Royal Bangkok Sports Club—a slice of old-money leisure amid the city's towers. Chef Matteo Fontana serves up Mediterranean and Italian fare, with the signature Australian wagyu filet layered over brioche, spinach, truffle chips, foie gras, and beef jus standing out as the heavyweight dish. Lighter options include tomato and olive focaccia, red shrimp carpaccio with burrata, asparagus barley risotto, and duck-pumpkin ravioli, with a deconstructed tiramisu to close things out. Open daily across three service periods, from 6:30am to 11pm.

Yamazato, on the twenty-fourth floor of The Okura Prestige Bangkok, is a direct sister restaurant to the original Yamazato at Tokyo's Hotel Okura, which opened its doors in 1962. Since setting up in Bangkok in 2012, it has maintained the same disciplined kaiseki tradition ever since. Chef Shigeru Hagiwara curates a full seasonal kaiseki course, opening with sesame crab miso tofu, followed by smoked duck and simmered octopus, then a clear soup with crab shinjo. The sashimi course features fatty tuna, seared scallop, and horse mackerel, while the grilled course is black cod with sun-dried tomato miso, followed by squid shumai and snow crab tempura. The meal closes with sea urchin and fatty tuna sushi, and finishes with matcha mango pudding. Staff serve in traditional kimono, with lunch and dinner service offered daily.

Addresses, phone numbers, and full operating hours for all seven restaurants are as listed above. Vertigo & Moon Bar remains closed, with no reopening date announced.
