Chainalysis files suit against ICE over $95 million in blockchain contracts that benefited TRM Labs

Chainalysis files suit against ICE over $95 million in blockchain contracts that benefited TRM Labs

A $95 million government contract pits two of the largest blockchain intelligence companies in the United States against each other. According to The Block, Chainalysis has filed a lawsuit in federal court, accusing the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) of not going through a fair bidding process when allocating this blockchain analysis contract, but directly directing the case to its peer TRM Labs.

The complaint's demands are very specific: asking the court to order a suspension of the $95 million TRM contract and requiring ICE to restart a complete and open bidding process. In other words, what Chainalysis wants is not compensation, but to put this business in the sun again to compete.

Chainalysis and TRM Labs have long been suppliers of on-chain analysis tools relied upon by law enforcement and intelligence agencies. In the past, the two mostly shared the market in different cases, but now they are directly facing off in court. This in itself is the most noteworthy aspect of this lawsuit.

As of now, the public information is only that the lawsuit has been filed, and the appeal is to suspend the contract and require re-tendering; ICE and TRM Labs have not yet responded, and there are no further details on whether the court will accept the case and subsequent progress.
