After Dolly Parton's Death, Sister Stella Slams Online "Flood of AI and Junk Content"

Less than a week after the funeral, Dolly Parton's sister Stella Parton decided to speak her mind on Instagram. Rather than discussing her sister's musical legacy, she turned her attention to something else entirely: the flood of "AI content and endless junk" overwhelming social media.

Dolly Parton passed away on August 25 at age 80, with her representative later confirming she died following a "brief battle with cancer." News of her death sparked tributes across the music world — Kacey Musgraves performed "Here You Come Again" in Boston, Maisie Peters covered the same song at Reading Festival, Jack White played "Jolene" during his London show, Orville Peck performed "I Will Always Love You," and Olivia Rodrigo dedicated her Daisy Chain Fields duet with Sarah McLachlan to the late icon.

But Stella described a different side of things, away from the stage. "First, thank you to those who have shown 'genuine' support and love during our family's time of grief," she wrote. "We will get through this, but everyone grieves in their own way."

She went on to make a more pointed observation: "Because our lives have long been lived in the public eye, we have no choice but to endure the enormous pressure and inconsiderate behavior that comes from strangers. Every day, a flood of AI content and endless junk gets posted, and it's exhausting trying to process or ignore it all." Stella also called out "people who make a living off consuming others' grief and tragedy," saying such accounts will inevitably "move on to the next wave of endless misinformation."

Meanwhile, Dolly Parton's estate has confirmed that the first-ever "star-studded" two-day DollyFest event will take place in Nashville and London in 2027, held over two consecutive weekends next year, with exact dates to be announced soon. Danny Nozell, founder and CEO of event organizer CTK Enterprises, told BBC News that DollyFest will take the place of a traditional public memorial service.

Dolly Parton was laid to rest in a private funeral last weekend at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Nashville, resting alongside fellow country music legends Porter Wagoner, George Jones, and Tammy Wynette. Her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, was also buried there last year.
