'Choosin' Texas' Streaming Champion City Isn't in Texas — It's Sydney

Spotify data shows that for Ella Langley's chart-topping country hit sweeping the US, the hottest streaming city this summer wasn't in Texas — not even Dallas could beat out Sydney and Brisbane. Meanwhile, the song has now spent 20 straight weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100.

'Choosin' Texas' Streaming Champion City Isn't in Texas — It's Sydney

A song called "Choosin' Texas" — but the city streaming it the most isn't in Texas. It's not even in the US. According to internal streaming data provided by Spotify, the city that played Ella Langley's single the most this summer worldwide was Sydney, Australia, with fellow Australian city Brisbane coming in second. Texas's own Dallas only ranked fourth, edged out by New York City as well. Melbourne landed in fifth place.

The ranking itself is its own kind of irony: the city named in the song's title got outdone by two cities on the other side of the world. Spotify didn't offer an explanation in the data, but the results speak for themselves — Sydney and Brisbane listeners are hitting replay on this track even more than folks back home in Texas.

"Choosin' Texas" has been on a tear since its release in October 2025, hitting No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on February 9, 2026, and marking its 20th consecutive week atop the chart as of August 31 the same year — the longest consecutive run at No. 1 for a non-holiday song. That achievement alone speaks to the song's sheer scale, and the streaming city rankings reveal just how far it's spread beyond the US.

Spotify's data also shows that about a third of Langley's total global streams this summer (June 1 to August 19) came from outside the US. Her top ten markets on Spotify during this period, in order, were: the US, Canada, the UK, Australia, the Netherlands, Germany, Sweden, Brazil, Mexico, and Norway. Australia not only produced the top two streaming cities for the single, but also ranks as Langley's fourth-biggest market overall.

Zooming out to the country genre as a whole, Spotify's data shows that over the past four summers, country music streams from outside the US have consistently hovered between 42% and 44% — this summer landing at 43%. The top ten global country music markets, in order, were Canada, the UK, Australia, Brazil, Germany, the Philippines, Mexico, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Indonesia. Spotify also noted that country music streaming grew 45% year-over-year in both South Korea and Egypt, 21% in Guatemala, and 11% in Peru.

Spotify did not offer a specific explanation for why Sydney and Brisbane listeners gravitated toward the song, providing only the rankings and growth figures above.
