"Prelude" first rang out forty years ago—"Opening – Bombing Mission" first dropped players into Midgar thirty years ago—these two timestamps appear in Square Enix's promotional copy for the new tour, and they're really the whole pitch for the show. Since Final Fantasy first launched on the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1987, the series has grown to 15 mainline entries plus countless spin-offs, and music is one of the few threads that ties these four decades together.
The confirmed tour, titled "Final Fantasy 40th Anniversary Distant Worlds: Music From Final Fantasy Eternal," will be conducted by Arnie Roth leading a symphony orchestra, choir, and soloists. The setlist draws from the series' core composers, including Nobuo Uematsu, Masashi Hamauzu, Naoshi Mizuta, Hitoshi Sakimoto, Yoko Shimomura, and Masayoshi Soken, performed alongside HD visuals produced by Square Enix that trace the series' visual and technical evolution side by side. The official copy also calls out the different starting points of players' adventures—whether Cornelia, Eorzea, or Valisthea—inviting everyone to "continue the journey."
