Harry Styles Tour Documentary Tapped John Wilson to Direct, MSG Residency Shoot Already Underway

Harry Styles' "Together, Together" tour documentary is reportedly being helmed by "How To With John Wilson" director, with filming at his New York MSG residency starting in August, eyeing a theatrical release.

Harry Styles Tour Documentary Tapped John Wilson to Direct, MSG Residency Shoot Already Underway

A director known for awkward humor and documentary-style narration, trailing Harry Styles through the streets of New York with a camera in hand — the image alone is confusing enough. Someone spotted John Wilson following Styles around New York last weekend, and social media immediately lit up with posts like "I'm losing it, this John Wilson and Harry Styles crossover and I have literally no one to talk to about it."

According to Variety, this is no coincidence. John Wilson — the director behind the surprise hit "The History of Concrete" and the HBO series "How To With John Wilson" — has been filming Styles' residency shows at Madison Square Garden since August, with the footage intended for a film blending documentary and live performance. A source revealed the film will capture "the real-life stories of everyone involved in the tour — from the singer himself, to fans, to the countless crew members working behind the scenes." The project is currently planned for a formal theatrical release, though Styles' team has yet to respond to the news.

Rewinding to this past March, Styles released his fourth solo album, "Kiss All The Time. Disco, Occasionally," celebrating with a single show at Manchester's Co-op Live Arena before kicking off the "Together, Together" tour in May. The first leg of the tour covered six cities, including a 12-night run at London's Wembley Stadium and an extensive 30-show residency at New York's Madison Square Garden — the very venue where Wilson has been filming. The MSG residency wraps up later this month, after which Styles heads to Melbourne and Sydney.

Notably, Styles' previous tour documentary, "Harry Styles: One Night in Manchester," was released through Netflix, making this reported theatrical approach a clear departure. The tour itself also announced additional dates last month, with a so-called "final run" bringing Styles back to Wembley Stadium for three more shows after wrapping up the North American and European legs; eagle-eyed fans have also noticed a gap in the schedule shaped suspiciously like a Glastonbury slot.

The tour's lineup of opening acts across various stops has also been impressive, featuring Kylie Minogue, LCD Soundsystem, Tears For Fears, Caroline Polachek, and Feist, appearing at venues including the Rose Bowl Stadium in Los Angeles, Circo Massimo in Rome, Wembley in London, and Riyadh Air Metropolitano in Madrid. The 2027 shows are also partnering with Live Nation's sustainability initiative Green Nation, encouraging fans to choose lower-carbon transportation options. Styles will continue his decade-long support of refugee relief organization Choose Love, donating £1 from every London ticket sold to LIVE Trust, while U.S. show proceeds will go to HeadCount, which helps with voter registration.

The documentary's title, release date, and distribution details have not yet been announced.
