The team that inherited a mess is now taking on something with zero pressure. Iceflake Studios revealed its new title "Lego Skylines" at Gamescom Opening Night Live—a city-building game themed around Lego bricks, coming to Steam, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2. The game will be published by Paradox Interactive, with no release date announced yet.
Players who recognize the name Iceflake Studios likely know it from another game—"Cities: Skylines II." This city-building game was originally developed by Colossal Order, but after launch it became mired in controversy, souring the relationship between Paradox Interactive and the original development team. Paradox later handed off subsequent development work to Iceflake Studios. In other words, the same team is simultaneously fixing a troubled AAA sequel while also crafting an entirely new lightweight title themed around building blocks.
The revealed trailer showcases Lego's signature vibrant color palette, while the gameplay retains the basic framework of city-building games: residential zoning, fire department placement, and other systems are all present. The logic of playing isn't hard to imagine—it's essentially repackaging familiar city management gameplay in the visual language of building blocks.
According to Engadget, the outlet's editor who follows the "Cities: Skylines" series closely holds a positive view of Iceflake Studios' current progress in fixing "Cities: Skylines II," and hopes this performance will carry over to "Lego Skylines." This is an external observer's assessment—the actual quality of the finished product will only be clear once more information about the game is revealed.
"Lego Skylines" has yet to announce a specific release date, with only confirmation that it will launch simultaneously across all four platforms.
