Leo Woodall Backs Oasis: Liam Gallagher Is the Coolest Frontman Ever

Actor Leo Woodall told The New York Times that while The Beatles is a family religion—his father and great-uncle still argue over who played the first chord—he privately listens to Oasis more, and flatly calls Liam Gallagher the coolest frontman in history.

Leo Woodall Backs Oasis: Liam Gallagher Is the Coolest Frontman Ever

At Leo Woodall's family dinner table, The Beatles aren't something you just listen to—they're something you argue about. In an interview with The New York Times, he revealed that his father and great-uncle still bicker over "who actually played that chord first," a debate that places the band's status in his family at near-religious levels.

But faith is one thing, habit is another. "The Beatles are ingrained in my family," Woodall said, "but I probably listen to Oasis more." He followed that with a blunt verdict: "Liam Gallagher is the coolest frontman ever." The comment came up in a profile about the essentials of his life—no build-up, no ranking the two bands' discographies against each other, just the gap between personal listening habits and family tradition.

The interview took place as Woodall promotes his new film Tony. Released by A24 and directed by Matt Johnson, the movie hit UK theaters on August 14, starring Dominic Sessa as a young Anthony Bourdain, the celebrated chef and writer, capturing a pivotal summer in a restaurant kitchen in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Woodall plays Sal, an oyster shucker who is one of the influences pushing the young Bourdain toward a life of excess, while Antonio Banderas plays the restaurant's head chef and owner. NME gave the film four stars, writing that Woodall's Sal "is a walking disaster of a cook who makes Tony look like a saint," and noted that while another actor might have made Sessa's leather-jacket-clad 19-year-old character insufferable, Sessa preserves the convincing vulnerability of his real-life counterpart.

Woodall's Oasis comments arrive just as the band continues to dominate headlines. Don't Look Back In Anger, the documentary chronicling Oasis's "Live '25" reunion tour, hits theaters and IMAX on September 11 before landing on streaming later this year. Speculation also continues over whether the band will tour the UK and Europe next year, and possibly return to Knebworth—earlier this month, organizers of "Live '25" secured permission to hold a concert there, though no official plans have been confirmed.

As for The Beatles, they're set to be the focus of a four-part biopic series directed by Sam Mendes, slated for release in April 2028. This week, the four lead actors were photographed recreating the iconic Abbey Road album cover.
