MES’s free RE-I exhibition in Shibuya: light, bodies and two events with different entry rules
PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO hosts the show until 16 November. A 4 November party upstairs is separately charged, while an 8 November talk temporarily interrupts gallery access.
Artist duo MES’s RE-I is on view at PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO on the fourth floor of Shibuya PARCO, Tokyo, from 24 October to 16 November 2026, with free admission. Regular hours are 11:00–21:00, with last admission 30 minutes before closing; the final day closes at 18:00. The address is 15-1 Udagawacho, Shibuya-ku, Tokyo. Anyone adding November events should distinguish the fourth-floor exhibition from the tenth-floor night party and the talk, each with its own timing and conditions.
From club lasers to urban memory, light does more than decorate
MES brings together Takeru Arai and Kanae Tanikawa, collaborating since 2015 across contemporary art, club culture, performance and installation, including work as laser VJs in Shibuya. RE-I returns attention to the changing city through large-scale video, durational bodily actions, early photographs and representative works. The proposition extends beyond moving club lighting into a shopping building: different media are used to reconsider Shibuya’s historical layers.
The title also resists one fixed translation. The organiser draws on multiple associations with the Japanese sound “rei”, including zero, spirit, cold, ray, layer and rave, setting forgotten urban histories against bodies in the present. These are creative frameworks. Visitors can still enter through distance between images, light and darkness, and bodily scale, without decoding each term into one answer. Nor should a particular colour automatically be read as someone’s emotion or an exact body temperature.
Circles, paired projections and a hand ask for viewing time
In an official installation photograph, a person overlaps with a large circular surface, its pink, yellow and blue areas forming layers against a rectangular image behind it. Another pairs a cool-toned body image with a warmer bell-like object. The photographs show ways light brings people, equipment and space into one frame, but a single image cannot explain the rhythm of an entire performance or guarantee the same action at every visit.
An official installation view pairs cool and warm images.
A wider dark-room view disperses glowing surfaces in different directions, while a close-up of a hand brings attention towards fingertips and highlights. Looking at the space from a distance and then at detail offers different viewing sequences. These are organiser-published installation and image records, not TIDEZINE’s own visit photographs or sensory tests. Check separate performance arrangements if live work is a priority; publicity photographs are not a daily programme.

The 4 November party is charged; the 8 November talk affects opening
REVOLIC – Revolution Holic is scheduled for 4 November at PBOX STAND on Shibuya PARCO’s tenth floor, 20:00–24:00. General entry is ¥2,000; U-25 entry is ¥1,000 with identification. Admission is free on presentation of an AWT VIP PASS. Tickets are available only on the day, and overcrowding may trigger entry restrictions. A free fourth-floor exhibition does not make the tenth-floor party free, nor does any ordinary AWT material automatically qualify for admission.
The MES × Chim↑Pom from Smappa!Group talk takes place in the fourth-floor gallery on 8 November, 15:00–16:30. It is free, with applications through ArtSticker; the first 30 arrivals receive seats, followed by standing places. The gallery temporarily closes at 14:30 for setup and returns to regular public access at 17:00. Also note the earlier closing on 16 November. The 26 October DOMMUNE programme still listed on the original page has already passed. Check organiser updates before combining the free show, application-based talk and paid night event into a visit.
