Mizuno is remaking its 2011 flagship running shoe, the WAVE PROPHECY 1, in an all-black colorway. The original INFINITY WAVE midsole structure remains intact, with a low-key aesthetic carried through both inside and out.

Back in 2011, this shoe was hailed as a futurist masterpiece — and this time, Mizuno isn't reinventing anything, just going full black. The WAVE PROPHECY 1 has been remade in a "Black" colorway, with every cutout and line on the upper staying true to the original design. The only difference: even the Runbird logo has been tucked away into the same tonal palette.

The core of this shoe has never changed — the INFINITY WAVE midsole structure that runs through the sole. It's a hollowed-out design that relies on geometric wave-shaped plates for cushioning and support, replacing the stacked foam typically found in conventional running shoes. This version rebuilds that structure with new materials, which Mizuno says results in a smoother transition. The upper combines layered mesh and synthetic materials, all in black, with depth created purely through tonal layering — a deliberate move to keep the look understated. The outsole gets Wgrip rubber, with traction as the main focus.

Worth noting: this isn't just a simple colorway update. Mizuno officially positions it as a reconstruction of the 2011 original using modern technology, designed to satisfy both athletic performance and streetwear needs — the sculpted shape and proportions of the original silhouette are preserved, while the materials and craftsmanship have been rebuilt to today's standards.

Release date and pricing have yet to be announced.
