RHC Ron Herman and THE NORTH FACE PURPLE LABEL are releasing their first exclusive collaboration in three years. Titled Light Gray, the series is scheduled for October 24, 2026. Instead of pronounced colour blocking, its pale grey fabrics, white zippers and small embroidery sit within a restrained palette. A hoodie, trousers and Field Jacket address different layers, bringing changes in texture to an otherwise tonal outfit.
The hoodie features a white front zipper.
Hoodie and trousers: shape before fabric
The hoodie costs ¥20,900 and the trousers ¥19,800. Both use COOLMAX eco French terry. The top has relaxed proportions, while the trousers follow a wide tapered line that narrows towards the hems. Matching colour and fabric allow them to form a set, but they need not be worn together. Existing jeans or a dark jacket can give the light grey pieces another context.

In the released photographs, white zippers reduce the contrast between hardware and grey fabric, while embroidery remains small enough to reward a closer look. The details depend on light, surface texture and folds rather than a prominent logo. For someone accustomed to plain clothing, the differences lie in neckline, shoulder line, length and leg volume. These proportions are worth comparing together when choosing a piece.
Why does the Field Jacket resemble a cardigan?
The third piece, the ¥47,300 Field Jacket, uses a plush fleece containing wool, polyester and nylon, with a collarless, cardigan-like silhouette. Its more pronounced pile contrasts with the collection’s French terry, creating depth even when colours match. The collarless opening also lets a shirt collar, hoodie or crewneck establish a different line underneath.

The brand says it can connect to existing Field Jacket models and serve as a liner, giving it a role beyond a standalone outer layer. Compatible models should still be checked in the product information; it should not be assumed to attach to any jacket. The announcement also does not specify a waterproof shell, so the THE NORTH FACE name alone does not make these three pieces rainwear or technical mountaineering equipment.
A tonal outfit needs differences in texture
Combining French terry with the plush fleece can give the set more variation, while footwear and underlayers adjust the balance of light and dark. Treating all three as interchangeable grey basics would overlook their strongest feature: fabric surfaces, zipper lines and the transitions between loose and gathered sections influence the silhouette more directly than a graphic would.
The three yen prices apply to individual pieces, rather than a complete outfit. Sizes, stock and sales arrangements should be checked with RHC. A practical starting point is to identify the layer an existing wardrobe needs: an easy-opening top, relaxed trousers or a textured jacket over an underlayer. That makes the choice between a single addition and a coordinated set more concrete.
