The equity of professional sports teams is not listed through traditional equity exchanges this time, but has been moved into a blockchain settlement system endorsed by the EU regulatory framework. Security tokenization platform Securitize has announced a partnership with fan token company Socios to tokenize equity in professional sports teams.
The significance of this project is not that "another asset is put on the chain", but that it is the first project under the Securitize European Transaction Settlement System. This system is fully authorized to operate under the EU DLT Pilot Regime (Distributed Ledger Technology Experimental Mechanism). It represents related token issuance and transactions and is conducted within the EU's regulatory sandbox tailored for blockchain securitization business, rather than wandering in the gray area.
The current public materials do not further explain which team, tokenized equity ratio, issuance size or transaction launch time, and Securitize and Socios have not yet announced more details.
