2027 Premier12 Format Revealed: Chinese Taipei to Host Both Group and Super Round at Taipei Dome

Eight days, two rounds, one venue — that's the most concrete detail to emerge from the 2027 Premier12 format the Chinese Taipei Baseball Association recently unveiled. Taiwan has secured hosting rights not just for Group A of the group stage and the super round, but also for the final qualifier for baseball at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. Officials have now confirmed that both the group stage and super round will run consecutively at Taipei Dome from November 8 to November 15.

Per the roster released by the WBSC, this edition of the Premier12 will once again feature the world's top 12 ranked teams: Japan, Chinese Taipei, the United States, South Korea, Venezuela, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Panama, the Netherlands, Cuba, Australia, and the Dominican Republic. The group stage is split into four groups — A, B, C, and D — with each group playing a round-robin, and the top two teams from each group advancing to the super round. As hosts, Chinese Taipei has been placed in Group A and will face three other teams on home turf at Taipei Dome.

The format itself has also been tweaked. Once teams advance to the super round, the top two finishers from Groups A and B are combined into Super Round Group 1, while the top two from Groups C and D form Super Round Group 2. The four teams in each group will then play under a "cross-group matchup" system — meaning results from games already played against group-stage opponents carry over directly into the super round standings, with no need to replay those matchups. The top two teams from each of the two super round groups then advance to a four-team super round robin to determine the champion and final rankings.

For fans in Taiwan, the most practical takeaway from this format announcement is that Chinese Taipei is now guaranteed to play both rounds at home, staying in Taipei from the group stage all the way through the super round. Details on specific venues and ticketing have yet to be announced by officials.
