The character design for "PaRappa the Rapper," the PlayStation game that first launched in 1996, came from the hand of illustrator Rodney A. Greenblat. That signature style—pencil-drawn lines paired with flat blocks of color—remains instantly recognizable even today. This time, rather than simply pulling from an old asset library, WIND AND SEA had Greenblat himself create a fresh batch of illustrations for the 30th anniversary. That detail is what gives this project its weight—it's not just a slapped-on collaboration, but the original creator personally responding to the characters he brought to life.

The project uses "96" as one of its visual motifs, nodding to the game's 1996 debut year—the number appears on a zip-up hoodie, alongside rhinestone-embellished tees and pencil-illustration-style graphic tees that form the core of the apparel lineup. The accessories line includes PaRappa-branded knit caps, pillbox hats, an obi-style belt, plus silver and gold pendant necklaces. On the lifestyle goods side, there are keychains, custom phone stands, and scented hanging accessories featuring supporting characters Master Onion and PJ Berri, along with a multi-purpose storage tray and a branded jacquard-knit blanket. Kids' sizes are also available, making it easy for families to coordinate.

The project launches simultaneously worldwide via WIND AND SEA's official online store and select retail locations on August 22, 2026. A 30th anniversary-themed pop-up will run at Osaka Shinsaibashi PARCO from August 19th through September 1st, currently the only confirmed physical location.
