On one hand, 400-plus security vulnerabilities patched. On the other, games suddenly going black mid-match. This time, Windows 11 users have to pick a side themselves.
According to Windows Latest, KB5121003, released by Microsoft on August 11, is a mandatory install as part of August's major security patch, fixing over 400 vulnerabilities. The problem is, this update also seems to have brought along a batch of new bugs—players have reported everything from game crashes and login errors to display glitches and full system failures.
The hardest hit are two titles from Embark Games:ARC RaidersandThe Finals. Based on reports so far, the issue stems from a broken compatibility between the update and a specific driver. Embark says the team is looking into a fix, but hasn't given a clear timeline yet. In the meantime, the official recommendation is for players to open Windows Command Prompt and manually disable the driver as a workaround—PC World's report also breaks down the steps in more detail.
For those who'd rather not mess with settings, the update can also be removed directly from Windows Update History. But doing so reopens those 400-plus security vulnerabilities—trading stability for security, or vice versa. Which way to go is really up to personal judgment.
Microsoft has responded publicly and launched an internal investigation, but hasn't announced a concrete fix timeline yet—for now, it's just urging affected users to report issues through the Feedback Hub. In other words, this update saga is far from over, and all players can do is pick whichever risk—crashing or vulnerabilities—they can stomach more.
