With true wireless earbuds, it's rarely the drivers that fail first—it's the battery. Once battery life degrades past a certain point, the whole pair typically ends up in the trash, a long-standing complaint among consumers that's largely gone unaddressed. With the new Momentum True Wireless 5, Sennheiser is tackling this problem head-on.
Both the earbud and charging case batteries are now designed to be replaceable. Sennheiser says the entire swap can be completed "within minutes" using nothing more than a small screwdriver. This isn't a factory repair service—it's a user-level DIY job. Compared to the previous True Wireless 4, this marks a rare shift toward repairability for the series.
Battery life itself has also improved. A single charge delivers 12 hours of playback, extending to 40 hours total with the charging case. Fast charging is also on board: 8 minutes plugged in nets an extra hour of listening time.

Design-wise, the new model is slimmer than the True Wireless 4, with Sennheiser describing the fit as "nearly imperceptible." The company also notes that 73% of testers preferred this new design. The charging case has been redesigned too, now narrower and more comfortable to carry in a pocket.
Call quality is now handled by an AI voice enhancement algorithm. The active noise cancellation system has also been overhauled, paired with new ear tips and a four-microphone array. Sennheiser says this setup is designed to boost noise cancellation performance while making the transparency mode sound more natural in real time.
On the audio side, the earbuds stick with the family's signature 7mm TrueResponse dynamic drivers, transmitting via Bluetooth 6.0 and supporting up to 24-bit/96kHz audio. The accompanying free app includes an 8-band equalizer for fine-tuning sound, while the earbuds also support head-tracking accelerometers for spatial audio effects.
The Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 5 launches September 3 in five colorways, priced at $300 a pair. No release date or pricing has been announced for Taiwan yet.
