Half-zip or full-zip knitwear? Seven styles compared by fabric, length and care

Zipped knitwear turns a small daily gesture into part of an outfit: raising the collar in the morning and opening it indoors. A recent Korean selection includes Drawfit, NOIRER, Good Life Works, Lacoste, Trillion, Intempomood and Beanpole Men. A half-zip retains a pullover’s continuous body; a full zip opens like a cardigan. Beyond that distinction, wool content, stitch structure, length and care instructions reveal more about everyday usefulness than a photograph’s suggestion of warmth.

Half-zips: neckline and body proportions

Drawfit’s wide half-zip creates a broad collar when open and covers the neck when raised, with ribbing at the body and cuffs. The source lists 10% wool alongside other fibres, including heat-generating rayon yarn, in a relatively dense 14-gauge knit. “Cashmere softening” describes a finishing treatment, rather than cashmere content. Separating descriptions of handle from actual fibre composition matters when reading the label.

Beanpole Men combines 100% wool with cable texture, leaving room for a shirt collar through the half-zip while preserving a sweater silhouette. It suits someone who wants one top to complete the main outfit. Someone frequently moving indoors and out, and removing the entire garment, may prefer a full zip. Choosing the opening is also choosing how to put clothing on and take it off through the day.

Full zips, from cropped shapes to jacket-like pockets

NOIRER’s high-neck style blends 50% wool, 30% acrylic and 20% nylon, using a shorter body and broad ribbed hem to maintain a defined outline. Its two-way zip opens from below, allowing adjustments when sitting or revealing an underlayer. The absence of pockets keeps the front continuous; for anyone used to carrying a phone in an outer pocket, that difference goes beyond appearance.

Good Life Works combines cables and a turn-down collar with a fully opening zipper, allowing the piece to work as a closed knit top or an open layer over a T-shirt. Intempomood’s Monotone adds patch pockets, a more textured knit and small openwork details, approaching an overshirt. One directs attention to continuous cables; the other divides the body with pockets. Neither needs a large logo to establish an identity.

Wool and washability imply different routines

Lacoste’s full-zip uses 100% wool, keeping a soft, slightly hairy woollen surface alongside a regular fit and small crocodile emblem. The style uses RWS-certified wool. That standard addresses animal welfare, land management and supply-chain verification; it does not mean the whole garment has no environmental impact. Alongside the clean full-zip appearance, consider whether the wool feels comfortable near the neck.

Trillion’s washable half-zip uses a raised knit surface and turn-down collar for depth, with washing still subject to the stated temperature and method. Beanpole’s wool cable style chiefly calls for dry cleaning; laying it flat to dry helps prevent weight from stretching the body. The differences extend from the fitting room to the laundry basket. Prioritising collar opening, underlayer thickness and an acceptable care routine makes it easier to choose a piece that will be worn repeatedly.
