Bayside Shakedown N.E.W. Opens in Taiwan November 27: Aoshima, AI and the Series’ Past

Bayside Shakedown N.E.W. is confirmed for a Taiwan cinema release on Friday, November 27, 2026, with Yuji Oda returning as Shunsaku Aoshima. Beyond a familiar character, the story introduces a police organisation using AI to prioritise investigations. Longtime viewers can approach it through accumulated relationships between people and institutions; newcomers can begin with the published premise and trailer, without treating nostalgic promotion as a review of a film they have seen.

From the 1997 Television Drama to the New Film: Who Returns?

The series began on television in 1997. Aoshima left a sales job to join the police, while senior officer Shinji Muroi, played by Toshiro Yanagiba, offered a contrast to the frontline perspective. Its identity concerns more than pursuit: it also examines how practical judgement, personal trust and superior orders collide within a hierarchy. Understanding that relationship offers a more useful entry than remembering a famous line alone.

The new film stars Oda, with Katsuyuki Motohiro directing, Ryoichi Kimizuka writing and Chihiro Kameyama producing. Shuri, Jin Shirasu and Takahisa Masuda also participate. Returning creators and new faces mean continuity need not make everything identical. Publicity images and posters identify character styling, but an actor’s presence in promotional materials should not be used to infer an unrevealed fate or the complete plot.

A Kidnapping Meets AI Decisions: How Is Tokyo Used?

The published synopsis places Aoshima newly in the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department’s First Investigation Division, where the kidnappers in Case 225 demand that he deliver the ransom. Other threats involve killings with a 3D-printed handgun and stolen toxic virus material, making the city crisis more than a single pursuit. These are fictional film scenarios, rather than reports of cases currently being handled by real police.

Taiwan’s main poster combines Aoshima, a city map and a character arrangement.

A further element is AI deciding investigation priorities and even whether arrest warrants should be approved. It extends the series’ established bureaucratic conflict towards people confronting system-led decisions. Viewers can ask how characters choose when experience at the scene, responsibility and decision procedures diverge. This is a viewing question drawn from the official premise, not a disclosure based on our own screening.

The Green Coat and Television Rewatch: Keeping Periods Separate

In the new film’s publicity photograph, Aoshima’s green coat, shirt and tie, and identification held in his hand form a visual thread. Two earlier images contrast uniforms, a green coat and a dark suit, while the present-versus-past poster places different periods together. These materials support comparisons of character and costume over time; older television images should not be mistaken for scenes throughout the 2026 film.

On October 23, the distributor also announced a limited free television-series rewatch on its official YouTube channel. Limited does not mean permanent, and episode availability and regional conditions should follow what the platform actually displays. Begin with the official film trailer and distributor’s film introduction for the new production. Taiwan’s November 27 release date is announced, while cinemas, sessions and ticket sales require individual channel announcements. Revisiting television and seeing the new film are complementary but different outings.
