Thirty-five Sindang Creative Arcade residents rethink material, form and making at Seoul Museum of Craft Art. Evening opening and separately registered talks continue through the exhibition.

Seoul Craft Exhibition Opens October 27 with 54 New Works and Free Admission

Seoul Museum of Craft Art presents 각각의 각 from October 27 through November 15, bringing 54 new works by 35 creators from the 17th residency cohort of Sindang Creative Arcade. Admission is free, and the exhibition occupies the first floor of Exhibition Building 1. It steps back from familiar divisions such as ceramics, metal and textiles to ask how an object emerges, changes and accumulates, and how it relates to another object or the person looking at it.

Five qualities shift attention from materials to how works take shape

Organised by Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture with the museum, the exhibition groups works around generation, transformation, accumulation, structure and connection. Wood and lacquer, resin, glass, paper, textiles, metal and ceramics remain present, but do not provide the first box assigned to each maker. Looking at layers, joins and forms before returning to material offers a way to see why different crafts can raise related questions, beyond demonstrating technical skill.

Published artwork photographs offer concrete starting points. Interval resembles thin sheets curling in the air, with overlapping, translucent grey-white surfaces. The blue work 변이 단계 forms a group of three rising shapes of different heights. 무아레 모빌: 달 suspends a circle, an elongated mesh-patterned element and stepped black blocks together. Their distinct outlines and surfaces make generation and transformation more than abstract terms: edges, spacing and overlaps provide a place to begin looking.

A workspace beneath a market brings process into the museum

Sindang Creative Arcade opened beneath Seoul Jungang Market in 2009 as a residency where craft and design practitioners work alongside one another, spanning ceramics, metal, textiles, design and other crafts. This annual project brings their creative outcomes into a museum, asking not only whether a work is finished but also what values and directions emerge through repeated making. For those who usually approach design through furniture, vessels or clothing, it offers a way to reconsider the decisions behind production.

At 14:00 on October 31, the Education Building auditorium hosts a conversation about how a work becomes part of an era. Sculptor Kim Yun Shin joins three resident creators to discuss beginnings, material choices and the experience of sustaining a practice. Rather than ranking works by awards or seniority, the exchange puts generations around a shared question, connecting the forms in the exhibition with the people making those choices.

Free exhibition admission differs from reserved programmes

Artist talks take place at 19:00 on November 6 and 14:00 on November 7 and 14, with 15 participants per session at the Craft Annex. Curator tours are scheduled for 14:00 on November 1 and 8, 16:00 on November 11 and 19:00 on November 13. These related programmes use first-come advance registration and may close early when full. Free gallery entry does not secure a talk seat, so visitors should distinguish both the activity and its building when planning.

The museum is at 4 Yulgok-ro 3-gil, Jongno-gu, Seoul, accessible from Exit 1 of Anguk Station. Opening hours are 10:00–21:00 on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays, and until 18:00 on Thursdays; Mondays are closed. Last admission is 30 minutes before closing. Evening hours allow a craft visit after daytime plans, but do not apply equally to every museum building. Begin with the first floor of Exhibition Building 1, then compare surfaces, spaces and combinations from a personal angle rather than simply checking off material labels.
