Snap Specs Launches Today in LA, Betting Big with $2,195 "Wearable Computer"

$2,195 — that's the price tag Snap has put on its notably bulky-looking AR glasses. Today at 4pm Pacific Time, Snapchat founder Evan Spiegel will take the stage in Los Angeles to officially reveal more details about Specs, months after its initial debut at the Augmented World Expo earlier this year.

Spiegel has already drawn a clear line: Specs isn't just another AI glasses product like the ones flooding the market—it's what he calls a "wearable computer," designed to accompany users throughout the day and even reduce reliance on smartphones. That positioning itself is a gamble. While most competitors are moving toward lighter builds and AI voice assistants, Snap has gone the other way, betting on a bulkier device built to function as a standalone computing platform.

Still, outside knowledge of what actually using Specs feels like remains limited. While the company has already revealed some hardware and performance upgrades, key questions—like comfort during wear, how much third-party app support it'll get, and how AI features will actually integrate into daily use—remain unanswered. Those details are expected to become clearer once today's event wraps up.

Snap has set up a livestream for the event. As of publication, the launch has yet to officially kick off, so the real user experience and feature details on Specs are still pending live reveal.
