SoFi Brings SoFiUSD Stablecoin Live on Mastercard Network, Card Program Targets $25B in Annual Transaction Volume

SoFiUSD is no longer just a token on paper — it's now actually running on Mastercard's settlement rails. SoFi announced that its stablecoin, SoFiUSD, has gone live for real settlement on the Mastercard network, meaning that part of the money movement behind consumers' card swipes is now being completed through this very stablecoin.

This isn't a small-scale pilot. SoFi says the related card program's annualized transaction volume is expected to exceed $25 billion. Compared to stablecoins' past role largely confined to moving funds between crypto exchanges, this marks a completely different path — one embedded directly into the back-end settlement of everyday consumer card swipes.

Structurally speaking, the key point isn't SoFiUSD's technical specs — it's that Mastercard is willing to let a fintech company's proprietary stablecoin into its own clearing network. This shows that on the card network side, stablecoin settlement is now being treated as a scalable path forward, not just a proof of concept.

For now, that's all the publicly available information — SoFi and Mastercard have yet to disclose further technical details of the settlement process or a launch timeline.
