SOREL × Aries Daystorm Chukka arrives: hair-on leather, shearling and a GBP250 boot
Tobacco/Velvet Tan and black combine contrasting surfaces, with D Double E in Joe Cruz’s campaign. Uppers, collars and trouser hems shape the proportions.
An autumn-and-winter boot need not rely on a taller shaft. SOREL and Aries’ second collaboration brings full-grain leather, hair-on leather and genuine shearling collars together on the Daystorm Chukka above a substantial rubber sole. Aries’ UK website lists GBP250, with black and Tobacco/Velvet Tan options entering the late-October sales programme. The changes are closer to touch than to a logo, and directly affect how trousers meet the shoe.
Smooth leather, hair-on panels and shearling occupy three heights
The body retains soft full-grain leather, with hair-on leather at the vamp and tongue and genuine shearling around the collar. Hair-on panels and the longer collar pile occupy different parts of the boot. The phrase hair-on should not be used to infer an unconfirmed animal species. From toe to ankle, three surfaces create legible layers even on darker versions.
A seated campaign pose reveals the hem’s position near the collar.
The brown option surrounds warmer front panels with a darker body, while white shearling makes the collar the brightest band. Black makes the material transitions quieter. Brown can connect with denim, earth tones or knitwear; black can continue darker trousers into a more unified lower half. These are visual relationships suggested by the campaign rather than the only ways to wear the boots.
The black version contrasts strongly with red outerwear.
Daystorm’s sole and Chukka shape place weight underfoot
Daystorm references the substantial language of SOREL’s classic Caribou, with a moulded rubber midsole and Vibram XS TREK EVO outsole. The sole extends outward beneath the shorter shaft, creating a smaller-top, heavier-bottom contrast with prominent side tread. Outsole material introduces possible use, but grip still depends on ground, moisture and wear rather than a name guaranteeing against slipping.
Campaign styling uses straight or relaxed denim and loose tops, with trouser hems meeting near the collar while leaving some upper and sole visible. A hem covering the boot entirely can hide the hair-on and shearling layers; an especially narrow leg can make the sole appear larger. Compare trouser openings and usual sock thickness alongside size numbers.
Relaxed denim preserves a clear relationship between sole and hem.
D Double E and Joe Cruz place winter textures in a digital setting
Joe Cruz photographs D Double E against ice-blue, green and frozen-ground-like digital backgrounds, with knitwear, furry outerwear and denim. The setting suggests cold while clothing brings the short boots into urban life. This is a deliberately constructed brand campaign, rather than documentation of a real snow test.
D Double E combines the short boots with knitwear and denim.
Aries’ official collaboration collection provides product and regional delivery information. GBP250 is the UK-page price, with costs elsewhere requiring separate confirmation. Collar height, hair-on proportions and sole volume provide a clearer starting point than simply classifying Daystorm as a hiking boot. How it connects with existing trousers and jackets gives it a practical place in a seasonal wardrobe.
