TikTok Overhauls Comment Section: 60-Second Voice Notes, 9-Photo Carousels & Polls Roll Out Together
TikTok is rolling out four new comment section features at once—voice comments, comment polls, live photo uploads, and 9-photo carousels—pushing comments beyond plain text into a richer, more multimedia format.
This update from TikTok isn't about the algorithm or the interface—it's all aimed at one spot: the comment section. Four new features are launching together, covering voice, polls, live photos, and multi-photo carousels, instantly making the way people interact in comments a lot more layered.
The star of the show is voice comments. Users can leave up to 60 seconds of voice messages under any video, and others can just tap to play them. The feature will roll out gradually over the next month to users 18 and up. Whether adding audio to a text-based comment section makes interactions feel warmer, or just makes comment threads harder to manage, remains to be seen—after all, this is completely new territory.
The poll feature is comparatively simple. Creators can set up a poll in the comment section of their own posts, with up to five options, and the results show up right there in the comments for everyone to track. This feature is already available to users worldwide. TikTok has experimented with similar concepts before through stickers or livestream polls, but this time it's packaged into a more standardized version that's closer to what you'd see on other social platforms.
The photo-related updates come in two parts. First, live now: users can upload live photos straight from their phone's camera roll into the comment section—these capture a second or two of motion and sound before and after the shutter click. Second, the photo limit in comments is going up: previously capped at one image per comment, users can now include up to nine photos in a single comment, forming a carousel. This feature will fully roll out over the coming month.
Taken together, these four features make TikTok's intentions pretty clear: comments shouldn't just be a place to type out reactions to videos anymore—they're meant to become mini interactive spaces where people can send voice notes, run polls, and share live photos. This fits right in with the platform's recent moves, including the previously added travel booking feature and the local feed that surfaces content based on where users are.
