Wild Grass Project 5.0 winners: ecological horror, unfinished characters and Taiwan's original screen stories
《樹噬屋》 won the top story award at Wild Grass Project 5.0, while 《未完稿角色》 received the inaugural AI creative video award. Here are the key winners, their story concepts and what an award does, and does not, tell us about a future release.
Eighteen shortlisted proposals, several very different worlds
Roots awaken inside an abandoned Taipei building and begin consuming its residents. Elsewhere, comic-book characters escape their panels to ask who controls their story. These premises belong to 《樹噬屋》 and 《未完稿角色》, two winners announced by the Taiwan Wild Grass Creators Association on October 31, 2026. Original Chinese titles are retained here to make the projects easier to identify; no official translated titles are implied.
According to the organizer, the fifth edition received more than 200 film, series and AI creative video submissions and shortlisted 18 proposals. 《樹噬屋》 received the NT$200,000 top story award. The results offer a starting point for following creative development, rather than a confirmed calendar of upcoming film releases.

《樹噬屋》 turns familiar urban space into ecological horror
Created by 川千丈, 《樹噬屋》 is set in an abandoned, illegally constructed Taipei building. In the organizer's synopsis, chemical waste awakens mutated roots, while residents conceal secrets of their own. The relationship between human beings and nature becomes a predatory struggle.
The premise makes architecture more than a backdrop: the building affects how characters move and survive. That is an editorial reading of the supplied concept, not a review of a finished film. The material available for this report does not announce a release date, distribution platform or full cast.

《未完稿角色》 asks who owns a character's story
盧雅玲 won the inaugural AI creative video award with 《未完稿角色》. Its owl and deer characters have been abandoned by their comic artist. Leaving their panels, they enter a discarded visual world, searching for identity and narrative agency amid changing generated styles.
The premise invites a more useful question than whether an image looks realistic: how does its visual language help tell the story? Including new tools in a creative competition offers one way to examine AI storytelling. The award is not an endorsement of a particular tool, nor evidence of the project's actual production cost or commercial performance.

Hakka stories take on suspense and fantasy comedy
郭玟希's 《掌繩之人》 won the top Hakka TV award. The organizer describes a criminal's viewpoint that questions how perspective, trauma and memory shape our understanding of truth. 《阿公的擺渡舖》 and 《囍上加霜》 received the category's other two distinctions.
The actors' choice award went to 陳炘怡's 《硬頸千金》, selected by actor judges 鍾瑶 and 宋柏緯. A fourth-generation heiress in a Hakka restaurant family unexpectedly shares her body with her great-grandmother's spirit. Women's growth, family business and fantasy comedy meet in the same premise, showing how a cultural subject can support several different genres.
The principal winners
Top story award: 《樹噬屋》.
Hakka TV awards: top prize, 《掌繩之人》; excellence award, 《阿公的擺渡舖》; merit award, 《囍上加霜》.
These categories recognize different things. Their recipients should not all be described as unproduced proposals, and the top story prize amount should not be applied to every award.
What to follow next
For readers interested in Taiwanese screen culture and original IP, the useful next step is to track creators, development news and later production or distribution announcements. The organizer reports more than 1,582 submissions and 124 stage pitches since the project began in 2018. Those figures do not mean that every project became a screen production.
This edition has already announced its results. The program page maintained by supporting company Monomyth retains an earlier provisional schedule; this article uses the organizer's October 31 announcement for the ceremony date and winners. New screening links, release dates or a future call for entries require a new official announcement.
