Outkast enters the college wardrobe: Nike and Georgia unite the crowned G and number 96
Nike, the University of Georgia, Outkast and Class Trip bring campus support and musical memories into everyday clothing, from red-and-black varsity jackets to retro jerseys and graphic trousers.
A jersey number can call to mind both a field and a record. Nike, the University of Georgia, Outkast and Class Trip have introduced the Outkast U apparel collection, bringing collegiate sport and Southern hip-hop into one wardrobe through Georgia’s red and black, a crowned G and number 96. Announced on October 26 and released in stages afterward, the collaboration includes pieces for cheering from the stands alongside jackets, sweats and headwear that fit everyday life.
A crowned G and 96 speak two cultural languages
The collection combines Georgia’s G with Outkast’s signature crown, while “University of Georgia, Outkast 1996” lettering connects the collaborators. Jerseys carry 96, recalling the year Outkast released ATLiens and Kirby Smart played safety at Georgia. For someone who discovered the music before following the team, these details offer a way into the clothes: one number holds two distinct sets of memories.
The visual language extends beyond a collaboration logo. A red wool varsity jacket with black leather sleeves uses chenille patches and chain-stitch embroidery, with Georgia and Outkast wording across the back. In the official campaign, red-and-black jackets meet white tops and loose trousers, bringing collegiate colour blocking together with more relaxed streetwear proportions. Logo placement and the balance between the jacket and trousers can shape the overall look more directly than matching every colour.
Different silhouettes beyond the varsity jacket
Jerseys come in a cropped mesh practice version and a heavier cotton retro cut. Rugby shirts, a satin bomber, heavyweight fleece hoodies, Max90 graphic T-shirts and hats extend the styling options. Hand-drawn-looking graphics are another detail to notice: in the official photographs, light-coloured trousers carry team imagery, crowns and lettering, taking the visual story from the chest through the entire lower half of an outfit.
Nike’s campaign was photographed in Athens during the summer with six Nike NIL athletes, revisiting familiar scenes from Outkast’s photographic history. A red car, speakers, grass and houses place sportswear in an everyday setting; these are campaign props and scenery. The athletes shown have a different role from the collaborating musicians, with the focus on how they reinterpret musical culture through clothing.

Athletes step into musical memories
The collaboration also extends to on-field and sideline equipment for Georgia athletes, coaches and staff, including eye-shield decals and skullcaps, serving a different purpose from public apparel. Readers can begin with jackets, jerseys and everyday tops, then view the exclusive equipment as another expression of team culture. Moving from the stands to the sideline gives the same visual language different functions for different people.
Outkast U launched on October 27 through SNKRS, Class Trip and selected Nike retail partners in Atlanta, followed by the full collection on October 28 at nike.com and selected retailers. The original announcement also listed an October 31 game-day pop-up at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. These are the published launch arrangements; Taiwan prices and distribution require separate local announcements. For fans of hip-hop and collegiate style, a crown, a letter and a number offer a compact way to wear stories shared across communities.
