Posing as a client cost $349,700 — that's the price on-chain investigator ZachXBT paid for intel. He says the money let him infiltrate a Chinese money laundering network allegedly connected to the Lazarus Group, with the investigation tracing back to the Bybit hack that rocked the crypto industry earlier this year.

That hack involved a staggering $1.5 billion, a scale so massive it almost immediately became the focal point of the on-chain investigation community. ZachXBT says the insider information he gathered through his disguised identity helped bring about the freezing of some of the funds, putting him directly in the middle of the case's asset-tracing process.

That's all that's been publicly disclosed so far: a six-figure undercover expenditure, an infiltration operation posing as a client, and the resulting frozen funds. As for the specifics of how the intel was gathered, the scale of the laundering ring involved, and other details, ZachXBT has not yet offered further public explanation.
