Brands usually throw the birthday party at the original location when celebrating an overseas store's anniversary—but this time, agnès b. is bringing the celebration to Taipei instead. From now through September 30, the Taipei Dream Plaza concept store is launching the "Kyoto Gion Limited Theme" to mark the 3rd anniversary of agnès b. Gion in Kyoto, Japan. The location has changed, but the identity has flown over completely intact.

The identity was designed by Japanese designer Teruhiro Yanagihara, built around a motif of six circles surrounding a central circle. Each of Gion's six hanamachi (geisha districts) has its own family crest, and the circle is an element within Gion's emblem symbolizing connection and legacy. Yanagihara maps the six circles to the six hanamachi, with the center circle reserved for agnès b. Café itself—placing the brand within the local context rather than layering on top of it.

What you can actually take home from the limited theme comes down to a handful of objects. The coffee cup and saucer set used at Gion Café makes its first limited debut in Taiwan, alongside a collaboration with Japanese Arita ware brand 1616 / arita japan. The tableware carries agnès b.'s signature handwritten script paired with its classic motifs—the ironic dot, stars, lizards, hearts—turning traditional ceramics into a vessel for the brand's most colloquial doodle language. It's the pairing most worth a closer look this round. Also in the lineup: a KINTO-collab insulated tumbler, plus a Kyoto folding fan printed with the Photoprints pattern and handwritten slogans.

What's more interesting is the direction of the reward mechanism. The perk isn't redeemable in Taiwan—it sends you back to Kyoto instead: from now through September 30, 2026, anyone who spends a minimum of JPY 6,000 in a single transaction at agnès b. Gion in Kyoto, Japan, can show the designated campaign message on Taiwan's official LINE account to redeem a to-go coffee from Gion Café. The event happens in Taipei, but the reward lives in Kyoto—this 3rd anniversary celebration essentially functions as an invitation, redirecting Taipei customers back to that original spot in Gion.

The campaign runs from August 14 to September 30, 2026, at the agnès b. Dream Plaza concept store. For full details, check the event page on agnès b. Taiwan's official website.
