Apple Opens Recording Studio-Meets-Live Venue in London, Artists Walk Out With Finished Masters After One Show

Most venues are built to answer one question: is it loud enough. Apple Music Hall is built to answer a different one: is there enough left over once the show's done. The newly opened space sits inside London's Battersea Power Station and holds 600 people, but the real story isn't the capacity — it's the two recording studios tucked behind the stage.

According to the official press release, the venue's 38-foot stage can be reconfigured depending on the show, set up in a traditional front-facing layout or switched to an in-the-round arrangement. The sound system uses 48 speakers to build out spatial audio, and the venue doubles as a full production facility: two dedicated recording and mixing rooms mean every performance can be captured in multitrack and mixed down into a Spatial Audio version on the spot. The camera setup is just as serious, with the space pre-wired to support 16-plus cameras feeding into a dedicated broadcast control room, built to run iPhone capture alongside traditional broadcast cameras.

In other words, an artist could play a one-off, intimate show here and walk out with a Spatial Audio recording, a broadcast-quality mix, and multi-camera footage — all pulled from that single performance. Apple Music's global creative director and host Zane Lowe called it a new way of "connecting artists and fans," saying it should feel natural to experience music in this space and then share it with the world. Apple Music's VP of international content Oliver Schusser framed the move as the company's commitment to live music.

Shows at the venue will also stream live globally, giving fans outside London a way to catch these one-time performances. Meanwhile, Apple Music Radio's entire London-based lineup of hosts and shows will move into Battersea alongside the new studios.
