LeBron James Teams Up with PGA TOUR for Junior Golf Invitational at Firestone
The LeBron James Family Foundation and PGA TOUR have announced a multi-year partnership, launching the inaugural invitational in July 2027 at Firestone Country Club in Akron, bringing together I PROMISE students and Pathway to Progression players.
On one side are the I PROMISE program students LeBron James has been nurturing in Akron for years; on the other are the pro golfers developed through the PGA TOUR's Pathway to Progression Pro-Bound Five initiative. This yet-to-be-played invitational brings these two groups—who would otherwise never cross paths—together on the same course.
The PGA TOUR and the LeBron James Family Foundation have announced a multi-year partnership, launching the inaugural LeBron James Family Foundation Invitational on July 6-7, 2027, at Firestone Country Club in Akron. The two-day event is split into two parts: educational mentorship sessions off the course, and competitive play on Firestone's South Course.
The event's format lets I PROMISE students from the Akron area interact directly with pro golfers from the Pathway to Progression Pro-Bound Five program, launched in 2023 to help historically underrepresented groups break into professional golf. In other words, this isn't just an invitational—it's a way of tying off-course educational resources to on-course competitive results, in the same place, at the same time.
Firestone Country Club carries its own long history in professional golf, and this partnership adds another layer of significance tied to youth development to the venue's legacy. Organizers have yet to announce a specific field of players, with more details expected to be released closer to the event.
